Dreading the Holidays?

Are you DREADING the holidays?

There are lots of reasons that we sometimes don’t experience the joy that the lights and sounds and gatherings with friends and/or family that the holiday season can bring. Especially for those who have experienced childhood or adult relationship trauma and distress (including divorce), memories of Christmas past can be painful.

So to all of you who are TODAY’s ChangeMakers, who are facing obstacles head-on and creating positive change anyway, please know you are not alone.

If you need a little encouragement, I like this reminder that there is present-moment help and support. No one has gone too far or done to much that a TURN-around is not possible. Christ’s mercy can be extended to all who will turn to Him with full purpose of heart and a sincere desire to let go of misery and embrace the LIGHT.

Spritual Vitality: Love God Through Thick and Thin

This morning, I was pondering. This realization came to the forefront of my mind.

I have a deep and abiding desire to teach my children and grandchildren, through my example, to Love the Lord through thick and thin.

In Isaiah’s words:

“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

“Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:29–31.

God helps us when we call upon His name in faith, believing we shall receive. I bear witness to His constant goodness and divine intercession in our behalf.

Consider the deepest desires of your heart. What will you do today to take creative action in order for your desires to be fulfilled? Take decisive action. Celebrate your results.

Spiritual Vitality: The face of Jesus is like an open door.

My Brite Star granddaughter loves to draw. She has quite the gift to draw meaningful pictures.

Today, I was reviewing a journal entry I made in 2015. She had recently turned nine and said something that is still very precious to me.

She said, “Now I know the secret to drawing Jesus face! Don’t make it too stern. Make it like an open door.”

I asked, “What does an open door mean to you?

She responded, “Like an open door.

Jesus face is supposed to be kind, letting you in, like an open door, not stern.”

I love that she is learning the truth about the character of Jesus. When we want to approach Him with real intent, and sincerely ask in faith for the desires of our heart that are in alignment with His will and teachings, He lovingly lets us in.

In an article written by Tanja Pajevic after the recent massacre in Florida, “Grieving After Orlando: 5 Ways To Take Care Of Yourself“, one thing she mentioned is, “Recommit to your personal values. Consider the legacy you’d like to leave behind. Will it be love? Kindness? Recommit to the people and the values that bring joy and meaning to your life.”

The power of kindness and love is remarkable! It has a positive ripple effect, and the influence of our kindness can ripple through generations!

Do we think of the face of Jesus as if it were an open door? Do we feel that forgiveness and help is readily available to each of us? Do we take the steps we need to take through prayer and communication with Heavenly Father to access Christ’s kindness and mercy. Do we feel of his grace (enabling power)? Being kind to ourselves and others adds stability to daily living.

Knowing that Jesus will enable us to develop this quality within our hearts and allow us to feel His love is a blessing worth reaching for. Let us do one thing today to connect with God and envision the face of Jesus Christ as if it were an open door.

Spiritual Vitality Tip. We Almost Lost Her.

Service amid despair and Gratitude for service rendered

Remember, your choices today INfluence Generations!

I’m reflecting, with deep gratitude, on the loving service given to me and my children by MANY family members and friends during our times of deep distress last year.

My sweet youngest daughter, Marissa, was in crisis, and her oldest brother and second sister moved into quick action to get her from Arizona to Colorado. They took her directly to the hospital where I met her and stayed with her there. She was immediately placed on suicide watch. I remember, so well, her courage to do what it took to work through her anxiety, face her fears and to slowly, but steadily, release her depressed thoughts. Somewhere amid the gloom, she wanted to live and to create a better life–and that desire and determination won out over her despair.

We shared a room for many months, she got a job at TJ Maxx, got her Colorado license to do hair and began working as a stylist and makeup artist at a salon with the support of so many friends here in CO. She bought a little truck, and today she and her friends are moving into their own place! Small, deliberate steps created SUCH a huge miracle in her life!

Sincere service and Gratitude for service rendered are, indeed, heavenly qualities and gifts. The feelings I feel right now touch me deeply. Helping others while having a sincere heart and real intent adds up to making a huge difference in our world.

There are still so many wonderful people in our world, including Marissa’s friends, hospital staff, counselors, and friends here in Colorado, who, through their loving support during that tumultuous time, helped to keep my daughter safe and alive. I will be forever grateful for the loving, supportive, much-needed service of those who rose to the occasion, gave of themselves, and allowed me to still have the blessing of having my youngest daughter near. AND the untold sacrifices of my sweet Lisa, during and persisting through the months of Marissa’s recovery and continuing now are beyond measure and will be forever embedded in my heart. Jon and Lisa opened their both their home and their hearts, and no, it wasn’t always easy. The prayers and other enduring devotion to family shown by my other children and their spouses are also acknowledged.

The divine in me recognizes the divine in you,

INspired Action Step: Let us be grateful today for at least 3 people who have touched our lives in a meaningful way. Let us notice and be grateful every day for those people who bless us, help us and cause us to want to contribute positively to the lives of others as well.

A THOUGHT TO PONDER

When we serve others with a sincere and honest heart, we are also in the service of God–representing His love and light in the world. Other qualities of character we’ve developed through our experiences also contribute to our contributions such as faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, brotherly kindness, charity (the pure love of Christ), humility and diligence.

How should we serve?

We benefit ourselves and others the most when we ask God for His insight and guidance through prayer, believe we will receive an answer, and then we receive and take action on the guidance and INspiration that is provided. After that, we trust. As stated in Proverbs 3: 5-6

5 ¶Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

REMEMBER
The choices we make TODAY have a ripple effect and can influence generations. As you ponder this thought, remember, YOURS is the spark that unites generations of power! By developing attributes of character that contribute to us helping ourselves and others and not hurting ourselves and others, we CAN change the story line of our lives and make a difference in the world.

It doesn’t matter how big or small a difference. A difference is a difference. It’s by small and simple things that great things come to pass. We influence one life and a time. We are on a quest to follow the 3 Guiding Purposes of TODAY’s ChangeMakers, which are:

1) Be happy and live a purpose-filled life today as TODAY’s ChangeMaker.
2) Prepare courageously and confidently for the future- come what may.
3) Glean wisdom from the past—rather than stay stuck in it.

This wonderful reminder from Jeffrey R. Holland is perfect for TODAY’s ChangeMakers. It is a perfect fit for the first guiding purpose of gleaning wisdom from the past rather than staying stuck in it.

He says, “As a new year begins and we try to benefit from a proper view of what has gone before, I plead with you not to dwell on days now gone nor to yearn vainly for yesterdays, however good those yesterdays may have been. The past is to be learned from but not lived in. We look back to claim the embers from glowing experiences but not the ashes. And when we have learned what we need to learn and have brought with us the best that we have experienced, then we look ahead and remember that faith is always pointed toward the future. Faith always has to do with blessings and truths and events that will yet be efficacious in our lives.

So a more theological way to talk about Lot’s wife is to say that she did not have faith. She doubted the Lord’s ability to give her something better than she already had. Apparently, she thought that nothing that lay ahead could possibly be as good as what she was leaving behind.

To yearn to go back to a world that cannot be lived in now, to be perennially dissatisfied with present circumstances and have only dismal views of the future, and to miss the here and now and tomorrow because we are so trapped in the there and then and yesterday are some of the sins of Lot’s wife.”

Let us embrace our present moments as we elevate our daily life circumstances throughout the year.
