Mother’s Day- If I told you my story…

IF I TOLD YOU MY STORY, it began with adoption. A courageous woman doing the almost impossible–letting go of a child she carried as part of her for 9 months. All these years she probably hasn’t known how blessed I am to call another woman “mother”. I honor my birth mother today for her sacrifice and love. If it were not for my mom, Aileen, (adoptive mom)–whom I love more than words could ever say– I would not have the peace in my life that comes from being introduced to the source of true life, light, hope and peace that I have known.

No one’s life is pain free or perfect, and mine was not. But my mom, Aileen, had the wisdom when I was two to tell my dad I needed to go to church. My spiritual education and experiences with faith, hope, light and love got me through the greatest traumas of my life.

I talk a lot on the internet about faith and Christ. Those who know me well know I am not a religious fanatic. Those who know me well know I am a quiet, unpretentious person, and I have learned through VERY hard experiences that I cannot go it alone–without God’s help. I want other to know there is always hope. I want others to know that turning to God is reliable, and that I absolutely know I have been rescued, guided and led along, protected, sheltered and kept in God’s watchcare, and that has made ALL the difference through ALL the trials, both large and small, in life.

The wisdom of a mother (my birth mom and especially my adoptive mom) is no small thing. Do not EVER underestimate the power of a mother’s love and INfluence–especially your love if you’re a mom.

This song,  “My Story” by Big Daddy Weave, is an accurate reflection of how I feel.

9 -11; Because I Have Been Given Much

This was my mom’s favorite hymn.  I think it’s fitting to post on 9 -11.  For those of us who live on after the tragic attacks on our country, we have the responsibility and blessing to live in a way that blesses others.  I’ve learned that by doing so, we grow and develop loving connections that are worth any sacrifice on our part.  I’m grateful for the model of service my mother set for me.  I’m grateful to the friends that brought this video to the attention of my husband and me.

Parents, Grandparents: Are You There?

This video touched my heart.  How many times are we present in the same room but not “connected” to those we love?

This is a good reminder, I think.  No guilt-trips allowed.  We learn from the past, rather than stay stuck in it, and then we set new goals.  Reminders can simply awaken us to the things that matter most.

I hope you enjoy the video as much as I did.

Stephanie Nielson Inspires Me!

Stephanie Nielson inspires me.

I will never forget the day I found out that there had been two small plane crashes within a week or two of each other, and I knew relatives of the passengers in both crashes.  Parents, longing for the well-being of their loved ones.

One family lost two loved ones.  Another family–the Nielsons–had a son, who was badly burned, and a daughter-in-law who was burned and in worse condition than her husband!  Stephanie (the daughter-in-law) was in a coma for three months.  Her husband, Christian, sought to recover substantially so he could be at her bedside when she awoke.  The pilot died in the crash.

Stephanie’s story was perfect for Mother’s Day.  I wrote about her on my Examiner site.  If you’d like to know more and click a link to watch her in a video titled My New Life, here’s the link:

You’ll see why Stephanie inspires me!
